Professor Cameron, Cathy as we all know her, is not only an amazing scholar, but also the kindest person and most supportive colleague at ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ. She was always helping graduate students and junior faculty advance in their academic careersÌý and helped to maintain cohesion among the faculty.

For me, she is always the smartest person in room, secure in herself, but never diminishing anybody else.Ìý She is ready to listen and generous in providing feedback and constructive advice. I am very happy that she has received the Alfred Vincent Kidder Award of the AAA for contribution to our knowledge of the American Southwest.

I can't think of a more deserving recipient of this award than Cathy. Over the course of her career she has been a major contributor to the National Park Service's Chaco Project, mentored dozens of students in the field, written at least five books that I have personally read and cited in my own work, advanced archaeological methods in the US Southwest and beyond, served the department in countless ways, and done it all with a smile. I've missed her every day since she retired and am so pleased that the discipline has recognized her importance, which will endure for a very long time.

Her groundbreaking scholarship has redefined our understanding of ancient social dynamics in the American Southwest - from movement and migration to captivity, craft specialization, architecture, trade, and even the use of stone tools. Cathy is a thoughtful colleague and an incredible mentor - the kind of person who always finds time to write an encouraging note to others. Aside from her amazing research, perhaps her biggest impact has been through guiding another generation of young researchers through their careers in archaeology and anthropology.Ìý
