Viola Arduini is an Italian artist, researcher, and educator who explores the relationship between humans, the ecosphere, and technology.
Before joining the ÌÒÉ«ÊÓÆµ, she worked as an art educator and administrator, collaborating with national and international networks to expand dialogues between art and science. As an artist, she has used CRISPR and biotechnologies to explore human and more-than-human interactions.Ìý
She is a doctoral student in the Emergent Technologies and Media Art Practices (ETMAP) program in the Department of Critical Media Practices at ÌÒÉ«ÊÓÆµ and part of the Living Matter Lab at the ATLAS Institute. Viola’s research interests include biodesign and the creative use of biotechnologies during ecological loss. She’s currently researching the properties of human milk as a biomaterial and post-human technology for interspecies storytelling.
Viola received a Bachelor of Arts from NABA New Academy of Fine Arts, Milano, (Italy), a Master of Arts in Documentary Photography from the University of South Wales, Newport (United Kingdom), and a Master of Fine Arts in Art & Ecology from the University of New Mexico in 2019. ÌýShe also holds a Certificate in Biotechnology from the Central New Mexico Community College (USA).Ìý
