Daniel Watson

Daniel Watson serves as Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at the Department of Homeland Security, overseeing media, digital, strategic, and incident communications. He advises Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on all internal and external outreach efforts.

Rejoining DHS in 2023, Watson brings over 15 years of experience in public affairs, advising policymakers and corporate leaders on high-profile issues. He held senior roles in the Obama-Biden Administration, including Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at the U.S. Treasury and Press Secretary at FEMA, where he was the national spokesperson for over 200 federally declared disasters, including Hurricane Sandy.

Watson began his career at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and later worked on the 2008 Obama-Biden campaign, the Democratic National Convention, and in the office of U.S. Senator Tom Udall. Before returning to DHS, he was a Partner at FGS Global, a public affairs consultancy. Originally from the UK, he grew up in Denver and is a ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ graduate.
