The ɫƵ Department of Human Resources has teamed up with  to offer this important course to ɫƵ employees. Based on the national best-selling book Crucial Conversations: Tools for Talking when the Stakes are High, the Crucial Conversations course teaches participants to speak persuasively, not abrasively; foster teamwork and better decision making; build acceptance rather than resistance; and resolve individual and group disagreements. New Employee Welcome Experience

The New Employee Welcome Experience is the first event in a year-long series designed to help increase the understanding of ɫƵ’s culture, organizational structure and governance, operations, learning mission, values, and campus initiatives. This program is offered to new, permanent ɫƵ employees in their first year of employment.This day-long event will help new employees become oriented with the ɫƵ campus. The New Employee Welcome Experience starts in the historic heart of campus where participants will begin to develop their understanding of what it means to be a member of the ɫƵ community.

The day will include a 2 hour walking tour of campus and a 1 hour bus tour broken into two portions throughout the day. Lunch will be provided by Elevations Credit Union and print materials are provided by CU Imaging Services (your campus printer).

Human Resources offers several programs that include personal coaching/feedback opportunities. If you are interested in taking a more in-depth approach to personal development, consider exploring a 1:1 coaching session with a certified practitioner. 

CliftonStrengths 

ɫƵ employees have the opportunity to schedule hour-long coaching sessions with a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach. These coaching sessions help employees to understand their Signature Themes in a meaningful way, enabling them to create strategies and solutions that allow them to learn, grow, develop and succeed here at ɫƵ.

These employee-driven coaching conversations can be focused on a variety of different topics to support employees including personal/professional development, closing skills gaps, and working towards defined goals or outcomes. Through intentional development and application of their identified Strengths, individuals can improve their ability to build relationships, manage daily responsibilities, influence and respond to others, and think about and process information.

Prerequisite: You must have completed the CliftonStrengths Assessment and attended a Strengths workshop.

Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)

The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is an assessment which helps transform how individuals understand themselves and work together in teams. According to CPP – The Myers-Briggs Company, “MBTI insights enhance personal development, supporting team and leadership training, conflict management, career change, and transitions.” Individuals may request an MBTI assessment and personalized feedback session through a certified practitioner. This tool is helpful for both leaders and individual contributors who are interested in exploring the MBTI to engage in greater self-awareness.

Cost: $45.90 per person for ɫƵ Staff and Faculty*

NOTE: This assessment is also offered through Career Services for current students and ɫƵ alumni.

Intercultural Development 

Individuals may register for the Developing Intercultural Competence seminar to learn more about intercultural competence and how the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) can assess, and build upon, your own level of intercultural competence. Qualified Administrators (QA) will guide participants through attitudes, awareness, knowledge, and skills associated with creating an inclusive campus environment. Upon completion of the course, participants are eligible to take the IDI and meet with a QA for their individual profile feedback session.

Cost: $15 per IDI instrument for CU Staff and Faculty

Building on the skills taught in Crucial Conversations, Crucial Accountability teaches a step-by-step process for identifying and resolving performance gaps, strengthening accountability, eliminating inconsistency, and reducing resentment. This course teaches: 

  • Performance accountability - Participants learn how to talk about expectations in a way that yields two-way accountability and allows further progress to be made.
  • How to accelerate problem solving - Consistent application of the skills leads to faster problem solving, decision-making, and conflict resolution.
  • How to improve relationships & productivity - When issues are resolved and focus is restored, productivity increases, relationships are strengthened, and high-performance cultures are formed.

Graduates of the Crucial Conversations workshop are invited to attend. There is a $180 materials fee for this program.

New Employee Welcome Experience

The New Employee Welcome Experience is the first event in a year-long series designed to help increase the understanding of ɫƵ’s culture, organizational structure and governance, operations, learning mission, values, and campus initiatives. This program is offered to new, permanent ɫƵ employees in their first year of employment.This day-long event will help new employees become oriented with the ɫƵ campus. The New Employee Welcome Experience starts at Old Main Heritage Center in the historic heart of campus where participants will begin to develop their understanding of what it means to be a member of the ɫƵ community. The day will include a 2 hour walking tour of campus and a 1 hour bus tour broken into two portions throughout the day. Lunch will be provided by Elevations Credit Union and print materials are provided by CU Imaging Services (your campus printer).

 

 

Managers Academy: Employee Management and Compliance Essentials

The Employee Management and Compliance Essentials course provides a comprehensive overview for managers and supervisors of legal guidelines, campus policies, and CU-Boulder practices related to employee management and development.

The core curriculum includes:

  • Pre-employment essentials (position management, compensation, and recruitment).
  • Employee development guidelines and strategies (onboarding, performance management and progressive discipline).
  • Special topics in employee management (federal and campus policies and procedures related to discrimination and harassment; the Americans with Disabilities Act; and the Family Medical Leave). In addition, participants will select two elective sessions from the following topics; Bystander Intervention, Writing Effective Interview Questions, Service Animals and the ADA, and Managing Difficult Employees

 

CU Discover: Higher Ed: A Whole Different Animal

Organization and Employee Development (OED) along with campus partners introduce a Crucial Conversations Refresher program for Crucial Conversation (CC) graduates. There is no cost to attend this program. All Crucial Conversations graduates are invited to join certified facilitators for an hour-long deep dive into the CC curriculum. 

Neuroscience and learning transfer theory tells us that consistently practicing new skills is the biggest predictor to successfully integrating learning into your everyday environment. The Refresher program will provide an interactive opportunity for CC graduates to practice and hone the skills and strategies presented in the original CC training.

Refresher Participants will be able to:

  • Apply CC skills and strategies in a facilitated environment.
  • Collaborate with other CC graduates and facilitators to enhance their application of CC concepts.

Come to this seminar to explore this important ability and gain skills to improve your own emotional intelligence.Participants will be able to:

  • Define Emotional Intelligence (EI).
  • Explain the business case for developing EI.
  • Recall areas of the brain involved in EI.
  • Describe the four elements of an EI model.
  • Apply strategies to increase emotional competence.

Crucial Conversations is a two-day course that teaches skills for creating alignment and agreement by fostering open dialogue around high-stakes, emotional, or risky topics – at all levels of the organization.  By learning how to speak and be heard (and encouraging others to do the same), you’ll surface the best ideas, make the highest-quality decisions, and then act on your decisions with unity and commitment.

The ɫƵ Department of Human Resources has teamed up with  to offer this important course to ɫƵ employees. Based on the national best-selling book Crucial Conversations: Tools for Talking when the Stakes are High, the Crucial Conversations course teaches participants to speak persuasively, not abrasively; foster teamwork and better decision making; build acceptance rather than resistance; and resolve individual and group disagreements.
