Master of Science Degrees

The traditional, research-based master鈥檚 degree in engineering is designed for individuals looking to deepen their knowledge and lead industry-based engineering teams. With a few years of work experience, you might be looking to add a specialty or change your area of focus within engineering. The master鈥檚 degree will challenge you to expand your knowledge while applying it to research projects alongside faculty and doctoral students.

These programs generally require full-time commitment on campus and take up to two years to complete. Students complete an extended research project and thesis and may work as graduate research assistants. The combination of graduate education with research experience will position you to lead engineering projects in the field of your choice.

Doctoral (PhD) Degrees

The doctoral (PhD) programs in engineering and applied sciences are designed for individuals looking to pursue innovation and research. Graduate students in these programs spend 4-6 years studying and applying existing knowledge to explore new areas of research. You鈥檒l gain experience in carrying out detailed research, reporting data and learning from mistakes to design new solutions or new ways of researching.

Doctoral students may take on teaching duties in addition to research roles in labs alongside faculty and other graduate students working on similar projects. Upon completion of the degree, PhDs are ready to continue research in academia or industry where their knowledge and skill sets are highly valued in research and development environments. Finally, some PhDs use their research to launch entrepreneurial endeavors where they blend their academic approach to building and creating products that address real-world challenges.

Professional Masters Degrees

The Professional Master鈥檚 Programs (PMPs) are for students seeking to seeking to advance their careers in a progressively specialized, highly skilled, and highly educated workforce. If you鈥檙e a working adult with several years of experience and a clear, driven focus, then a PMP may be the path for you. Our PMP students pursue their degrees either full-time or part-time while also working in industry. In addition to technical classes, course work may include project management, engineering ethics and economics and capstone projects designed to put your class-based learning to active use.
