K-12 STEM Programs Instructor (Part-Time)

Position details:

CU Science Discovery is seeking part-time instructors to join our School and Teacher Programs team. Science Discovery instructors play a key role in connecting CU to the community through the delivery of hour-long Classroom Programs and traveling STEM Workshops. These hands-on programs for K-12 students can be delivered across multiple classrooms and grade levels. Many of these programs are delivered to grades K-5, so enthusiasm for and experience working with younger children is important. The programs offered by Science Discovery span a variety of STEM topics, including but not limited to:

  • Life Sciences (Biology 鈥 mammals, birds, fish, bats, marine biology, anatomy, etc.)
  • Earth and Physical Sciences
  • Geology
  • Physics
  • Engineering
  • Environmental Science
  • Computer Science
  • Data Literacy

What we look for in part-time instructors:

  • Experience working with young children, especially in grades K-8. Experience as an educator in formal/informal settings is preferred.
  • Experience doing STEM outreach with young students is a plus.
  • Experience and knowledge in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and/or Math) field.
  • Flexible schedule to deliver programs during school time (8am 鈥 3pm) on weekdays when scheduled and occasionally on weekends.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable personal transportation (a car) to travel to schools and handle instructional materials and supplies.
  • A willingness to try new things and have fun!

How it works:

  • Core Science Discovery staff organize with the schools and set up dates and times for programs.
  • We contact part-time instructors for availability on these days, as far in advance as possible. Usually, you would know these dates >2 to 3 weeks in advance. You can then choose which programs fit in your schedule.
  • New instructors will participate in mandatory training and orientation
  • Instructors can learn and deliver multiple different programs.
  • Program schedules are not regular and are often unpredictable. We cannot guarantee the number of programs that you may be contacted to deliver, as schools reach out to us as needed. For reference, you can expect the potential of 10-15 programs during the school year.
  • Instructors for classroom presentations are compensated at a fixed rate of $65 per session, plus $50 for each of the same session at the same school.
  • Mileage for travel to sites is reimbursed according to 桃色视频 rates.

Though this is posted as 鈥淥n-Campus鈥 student employment, you must have working rights to work off-site, as a majority of hours will be taking place at schools in the area and NOT on CU's campus. CU Science Discovery cannot be responsible for ensuring compliance with visa requirements for international students.听
